This program is for older Scouts 14 years of age and older. Participants must have earned the following merit badges in order to participate*
*Camping, First Aid, Wilderness Survival, Pioneering
All participants must have a Class 3 physical and it must be current.
Scouts will learn proven survival techniques used in survival at sea, in jungles, deserts and artic regions. Scouts will also learn how to find potable water, food from animals and edible plants, as well as finding directions using the sun or stars, and locating or making shelters.
Scouts will also learn about hunting, fishing, tracking and taxidermy.
Scout will experience extreme conditions with minimal personal gear on their expedition into the vast wilderness.
Scouts must bring their own personal survival kit which must include the following: First Aid supplies, fire starting material, water purification tablets, signaling mirror, waterproof matches, small candle, fish hook, fishing line, pocketknife, and a small compass. All items must fit into a single carrying device such as a pouch.
Additional equipment needed: 10x10 tarp, flashlight with extra batteries, utensils, sleeping bag, bug spray, canteen or water bottle, rain poncho, 25’ of ¼ rope and a small day pack.
Scouts must bring a list of items they would need in their Family Survival Kit for a Hurricane in Florida and a power failure in Alaska.
